Electrician Bow and Mile End: EICR for Flats

Bow and Mile End, in the heart of Tower Hamlets, mix Victorian terraces and Georgian squares with post war council blocks and new build flats along the canal. A big share of homes are rented, many to students and young professionals, so landlord EICRs and HMO checks are the work we do most in E3 and E1.

Areas we cover

We work across Bow, Old Ford, Roman Road, Fish Island, Bow Common, Mile End, Stepney Green, Globe Town, Bethnal Green edge and Bromley-by-Bow, as part of our wider Tower Hamlets coverage.

EICR for E3 and E1 landlords

Private landlords must have the electrics inspected at least every five years and give a copy to tenants before they move in. Tower Hamlets also runs property licensing for many rented homes, so check which scheme applies to yours. EICRs start from £100 and the certificate is emailed the same day.

What we often find

  • Ex council flats with older consumer units and no RCD protection on sockets.
  • Terraces converted into shared houses with overloaded bedroom circuits.
  • Kitchens and bathrooms refitted without electrical certificates.
  • Storage heater circuits with scorched outlets in all-electric flats.
  • Smoke alarms that are battery only where a licence asks for mains linked alarms.

All-electric flats are common here, and our guide to storage heaters and what an EICR looks for covers the typical problems.

New build flats

Newer blocks by the canal and the Olympic Park edge usually have modern consumer units, but they still need an EICR every five years when let. Testing is normally quick, and we work around concierge and access rules.
