Electrician Hackney: EICR, Rewires and EV Chargers

Hackney has changed fast, but its housing still tells the story of every era: Victorian terraces in Stoke Newington and Clapton, converted warehouses in Hackney Wick and Shoreditch, and large estates across the borough. This page covers EICR certificates, consumer units, rewiring and EV chargers for Hackney landlords and homeowners.

Areas we cover in Hackney

We work across the whole borough, including Dalston, Stoke Newington, Clapton, Homerton, Hackney Central, Hackney Wick, London Fields, De Beauvoir Town, Haggerston, Hoxton, Shoreditch and Stamford Hill.

EICR certificates for Hackney landlords

Private landlords in England need an EICR at least every five years and before each new tenancy. Hackney also runs property licensing for many privately rented homes, and a current electrical safety report is one of the documents usually asked for.

• Price: an EICR in Hackney starts from £100, fixed when you book.
• Turnaround: booking is usually within 48 hours and the certificate is emailed the same day.
• Who: a registered electrical contractor with City & Guilds certified electricians, testing to BS 7671.

When a rewire makes more sense

Some older Hackney properties still have very old cable, rubber insulated wiring or a patchwork of alterations. When an EICR finds widespread problems, a partial or full rewire can be cheaper over time than repairing circuit by circuit. Signs it may be time:

• Old round-pin sockets, fabric covered flex or black rubber cable visible at fittings.
• Very low insulation readings across several circuits.
• No earth on lighting circuits, so metal fittings cannot be used safely.
• Repeated C2 codes on the same circuits at each inspection.

We will tell you honestly whether repairs or a rewire is the better option, and give a fixed quote for either.

Consumer units and EV chargers

A new consumer unit with RCD and surge protection clears the most common EICR codes. If you have a driveway or off-street space, we can also check whether the supply is ready for an EV charger installation.
