Electrician Kentish Town and Tufnell Park: EICR for Period Flats

Kentish Town and Tufnell Park sit between Camden Town, Highgate and Holloway, with streets of tall Victorian houses, many of them split into two, three or four flats over the years. Conversions like these often share old wiring, supplies and meters in ways that are hard to follow, so an EICR is the best way to see what you have. This page covers electrical work in NW5 and N19.

Areas we cover

We work across Kentish Town, Tufnell Park, Dartmouth Park, Gospel Oak, Camden Road, Brecknock Road and the borders with Camden Town, Highgate and Holloway. Our post on Archway and Holloway covers the neighbouring streets in Islington.

EICR for converted flats

Landlords must have an EICR at least every five years and give a copy to tenants before they move in. In converted houses we check which circuits belong to which flat, whether communal lighting and the entry phone are on a landlord supply, and whether each flat has its own protection. EICRs start from £100 and the certificate is emailed the same day.

What we often find in NW5 and N19

  • Circuits from one flat running through another flat's ceiling.
  • Communal hall lights wired from a tenant's board.
  • Older consumer units with no RCD protection.
  • Lighting circuits with no earth in original parts of the house.

Clear labels make a big difference in shared houses. Our guide to consumer unit labelling and circuit charts explains why.

Buying or selling a flat

An EICR is not a legal must when you sell, but buyers and their surveyors often ask for one, and it helps avoid surprises. Our guide on selling a flat in London covers when it is worth getting one.
