Electrician Uxbridge and Hillingdon: EICR and Consumer Units

Hillingdon is London's second largest borough, stretching from Harefield and Ruislip in the north to Uxbridge, Hayes, West Drayton and the edge of Heathrow in the south. Much of it is suburban, with 1930s semis, bungalows and family houses alongside newer flats in Uxbridge and Hayes. This page covers EICR certificates, consumer unit upgrades and EV chargers across the borough.

Areas we cover in Hillingdon

We work across the whole borough, including Uxbridge, Hillingdon, Ickenham, Ruislip, Ruislip Manor, South Ruislip, Eastcote, Northwood, Harefield, Hayes, Yeading, Harlington, West Drayton and Yiewsley. That covers the UB3, UB4, UB7, UB8, UB10, HA4 and HA6 postcodes.

EICR certificates for homes and lets

Private landlords in England must have the electrics in a rented home inspected and tested at least every five years and before a new tenancy, and give a copy of the report to the tenant. Homeowners are not required to, but an EICR is a sensible check when you buy, before a renovation, or when a house has been extended over the years.

  • Price: an EICR in Uxbridge or anywhere in Hillingdon starts from £100, fixed when you book.
  • Turnaround: booking is usually within 48 hours and the certificate is emailed the same day.
  • Who: a registered electrical contractor with City & Guilds certified electricians, testing to BS 7671.

Consumer units and what we often find

  • Original or early consumer units in 1930s and 1950s houses, with no RCD protection on socket circuits.
  • Extensions, loft rooms and conservatories wired from existing circuits without a check on the extra load.
  • Garages and outbuildings fed with unsuitable cable, common in larger plots in Ruislip, Ickenham and Northwood.
  • Missing main bonding to gas and water pipes after a kitchen or bathroom refit.

A consumer unit upgrade clears the most common EICR codes in one job and comes with its own installation certificate. For rented homes with an unsatisfactory report, landlords have 28 days, or less if the report says so, to have C1, C2 and FI items put right.

EV chargers in Hillingdon

Most Hillingdon homes have a driveway, so a home charger is usually simple to fit. At the same visit we check whether your main supply and board are ready for an EV charger installation, or whether load management is needed.
