Electrician Wembley and Brent: EICR, Consumer Units and Rewires
Brent stretches from Kilburn and Queen's Park in the south to Kingsbury and Kenton in the north, with Wembley in the middle. It has a large private rented sector and a lot of older housing, so EICR certificates, consumer unit upgrades and rewires are the jobs we are asked for most. This page covers prices, turnaround and what we often find in Brent homes.
Areas we cover in Brent
We work across the whole borough, including Wembley, Wembley Park, Alperton, Sudbury, Harlesden, Willesden, Willesden Green, Neasden, Dollis Hill, Kilburn, Queen's Park, Kensal Green, Stonebridge, Kingsbury, Kenton and Preston. That covers the NW2, NW6, NW9, NW10, HA0, HA3 and HA9 postcodes.
EICR certificates for Brent landlords
Private landlords in England must have the electrics in a rented home inspected and tested at least every five years and before a new tenancy, and give a copy of the report to the tenant. Brent runs property licensing schemes that cover many rented homes, and a current electrical safety report is one of the documents councils usually ask for with a licence.
- Price: an EICR in Wembley or anywhere in Brent starts from £100, fixed when you book.
- Turnaround: booking is usually within 48 hours and the certificate is emailed the same day.
- Who: a registered electrical contractor with City & Guilds certified electricians, testing to BS 7671.
Consumer units and rewires
Much of Harlesden, Willesden and Kilburn is Victorian and Edwardian housing, often split into flats, while Kingsbury, Kenton and Preston have more 1930s semis. The age of the house usually decides what turns up on the report.
- Older fuse boards with rewireable fuses or no RCD protection are the most common reason a report comes back unsatisfactory. A consumer unit upgrade fixes this in one job and comes with its own certificate.
- Very old wiring, such as rubber insulated cable or lighting circuits with no earth, usually means a partial or full rewire is better value than repairing circuit by circuit.
- Flat conversions often have landlord and tenant circuits mixed together, which needs sorting before the report can pass.
- Missing main bonding to gas and water pipes after a refit is quick to fix but is still coded on the report.
If the report is unsatisfactory, landlords have 28 days, or less if the report says so, to have C1, C2 and FI items put right. We quote any remedial work at the visit.
EV chargers in Brent
If you have a driveway, which is common in the north of the borough, we can check at the same visit whether your supply and board are ready for an EV charger installation.
