Electrician Barnet and Whetstone: EICR and EV Chargers

Chipping Barnet, New Barnet and Whetstone, at the northern tip of the borough, are areas of Victorian villas, Edwardian terraces, 1930s semis and larger detached homes towards Totteridge and Hadley. Most houses have drives or garages, and many have been extended over the years. We are based on Bowes Road in N11, a short drive away, so EN4, EN5 and N20 are among the areas we reach quickest.

Areas we cover

We work across Chipping Barnet, High Barnet, New Barnet, East Barnet, Whetstone, Totteridge, Oakleigh Park, Arkley, Hadley and the borders with Cockfosters and Southgate. Our post on Barnet covers the rest of the borough.

EICR for homeowners and landlords

Landlords must have an EICR at least every five years and give a copy to tenants before they move in. Homeowners often book one before selling, before an extension, or when they move into an older house. EICRs start from £100 and the certificate is emailed the same day.

EV chargers and garages

With so many drives and garages, home chargers are a popular upgrade here. We check the supply, earthing and board first, then fit the charger on the wall or a post where it suits your parking. Garages often have old supplies of their own, so we test those too. Our EV blog compares post and wall mounted chargers.

What we often find in EN4, EN5 and N20

  • Older consumer units with no RCD protection.
  • Large extensions and loft rooms wired on to the original circuits.
  • Garages and garden buildings with old or unsuitable supplies.
  • Outdoor lights and sockets with no weatherproofing.

Our guide to garden and outdoor sockets explains what safe outdoor wiring looks like.
