Electrician Stamford Hill and Clapton: EICR for Landlords

Stamford Hill and Clapton, in the north and east of Hackney, are areas of large Victorian houses, terraces split into flats, mansion blocks and estates, running down to the River Lea and the Lea Bridge Road. Many larger houses here are home to big families or are let as flats and shared houses, so the electrics often carry a heavy load. This page covers EICRs and electrical work in N16 and E5.

Areas we cover

We work across Stamford Hill, Upper Clapton, Lower Clapton, Clapton Common, Clapton Park, Springfield Park, Lea Bridge and the borders with Stoke Newington, Tottenham and Walthamstow. Our post on electricians in Hackney covers the rest of the borough.

EICR for local landlords

Private landlords must have an EICR at least every five years and give a copy to tenants before they move in. Hackney runs property licensing for many privately rented homes, so check which scheme covers yours. EICRs start from £100 and the certificate is emailed the same day.

Large family homes

Big households use a lot of power at once: several cookers or ovens, washing machines, dryers, electric heaters and showers. Older circuits were not designed for this, so we check cable sizes, the consumer unit and how the load is spread. Our guide to kitchen electrics and cooker circuits explains what a busy kitchen needs.

What we often find in N16 and E5

  • Extensions and loft rooms wired on to the original circuits.
  • Second kitchens added with no dedicated cooker circuit.
  • Older consumer units with no RCD protection.
  • Smoke alarms missing on some floors.
